August President’s Letter: Falling Forward Into New Beginnings

August President’s Letter: Falling Forward Into New Beginnings

By: Leigh Tidwell

August is coming to a close and fall is right around the corner. We don’t experience a true change of seasons in North Texas, but I still love this time of year. It’s another time of new beginnings. School is starting, football season is close behind and the State Fair is already in preparation. Summer vacations are coming to a close and for most of us, “the season” will quickly be upon us and we’ll all be in full event mode! And who can forget our amazing NACE fundraiser? I hope to see all of you there!
This fall I’m not as excited, change is hard and time goes by quickly. My resolutions of being Present, being Patient, and being Prepared are more difficult this month. My oldest child is headed off the college in just a few days and I’m finding it difficult to stay present – just in this moment. Memories of her childhood, fears about her first few months of college, and anxiety of the change in dynamics in our family flood my mind. This makes being patient more challenging. Life keeps going even when I need it stand still just for this last week that she’s at home. There is still work to be done, deadlines to be met, and things to do. Being prepared makes me feel a little more in control – making sure she has what she needs even when I’m not quite sure what that is. The checklist is very reassuring.
These things are happening within our membership even as I type this. I see great family photos of children preparing to start back to school, moving into their dorms, and already practicing with their sports teams at school. This is comforting as I realize that we share so much in common beyond our professional and networking lives. I look forward to getting to see each and every one of you the first Wednesday of each month!
This next first Wednesday, our NACE Chapter is also preparing to host our biggest event of the year as well! Chords for Causes at The Bomb Factory. This second annual event is supporting the Make A Wish Foundation this year and I’m sure you won’t want to miss it. Our chair this year, Jacqueline Hill, has been working diligently all year with a dynamic team to outdo last year. It’s not too late to sign up your act or buy your ticket. I hope to see you all there and Happy Fall!
