Each year we were able to attend in a very unique capacity and 2015 was no exception. This year marked my first opportunity to present to the membership and guests at the conference and I can say that it was without a doubt an exciting and rewarding experience (pun most certainly intended) Upon submitting my ideas to the NACE Education Committee we determined that it would be of benefit to create a breakout specifically geared toward the students and young professionals in attendance from NACE Chapters around the country. Their level of experience and tenure may not be on par with some of the longer standing veterans of our industry; however, their talent, professionalism and hunger for knowledge is second to none. We wanted to be sure to feed the passion and dedication of these immerging professionals so they felt valued and inspired to continue their pursuit of success! It is my belief that relationship creation and management is one of the primary skills necessary to excel in the professional arena and that networking is often misunderstood and under utilized. In our hour together, I wanted to share basic principles of traditional networking and relationship management, introduce new and creative opportunities to connect with other professionals and, more than anything, provide practical tools that could be quickly applied to real world experiences. Theories and ideas are great but only have real power when applied practically to our professional world. Humility restricts me from expounding on whether or not I feel the breakout session was a success; however, I will share that one student shared with me later in the week that she already felt more confident in new group situations and another student emailed me upon her return to say that she was employing some of the concepts she learned to great success. It was a great pleasure to meet these ambitious young professionals and rewarding to hear that they benefitted from the session.
