President’s Letter February 2018

President’s Letter February 2018

February is on the horizon and you know what that means…LOVE is in the air!  As florists and chocolatiers feverishly prepare for Valentine’s Day, the DFW NACE Board of Directors are hard at work on our annual Awards Program.  A few years back, we moved the awards program from January to February based largely on logistical challenges; however, I now realize that February is where it always belonged.  Simply put, it is all about LOVE!  So, what better month than February to outwardly illustrate just how much LOVE there is in the DFW Chapter of NACE.  Thank you to all those that took the time to cast their vote and honor those special members that contributed in 2017!

Allow me to break this down just a little bit.  (I mean, I know you know about the LOVE; but, just indulge me here)  Each year we, as a chapter, gather for nine monthly meetings and one epic annual fundraiser.  At each of these events, we must provide a great many elements such as decor, education, entertainment, food & beverage and so on.  We strive to create an environment that fosters interaction and networking among new and returning members and guest.  Of course, just meeting the standard is not nearly enough for DFW NACE.  We set the standard and the bar is high.  (WOW, I am tired just writing about it.)  So, how is it possible to do all that month…after month…after month?  Simply put…YOU make it possible!  For over 30 years, we have relied on the generosity of our dedicated members that have consistently contributed knowledge, talent, time and money as well as other valuable resources to ensure we have always been one of the best (if not THE very best) NACE chapter.  Now that’s what I call LOVE!

We are so much more than just our exceptional meetings, though.  We are family!  We care about one another deeply both professionally and personally.  We listen, we teach and we learn.  We provide strength when some is feeling weak.  We celebrate success and we mourn loss.  We are truly great as individuals but we are even better as a whole.  In the immortal words of the 1960’s British invasion band The Beatles – All You need is LOVE…well, that and DFW NACE.

When I reflect back on my 8 years as a member I am overwhelmed with gratitude.  So much of the success Emily and I have been fortunate to experience is due largely to our membership.   Referrals, business advice, synergy, strategy, encouragement…you name it…we got it from our DFW NACE Family!  If you have never heard our rebranding launch party story…ask me about it when you see me next.  I LOVE telling all about how one of our greatest concerns was transformed into our one of our proudest accomplishments with the help of two very special NACE friends (Thank you again Dana and Billie…we <3 you)

OK, time to wrap it up…I’ll  leave you with this.  You have likely heard it before and, yes, I am going to say it again, “You get out what you put in”. Search your heart and decide how you think you want to get involved.  Ask your board of directors and other members for ideas if you need help.  As most of you know, I am full of ideas (some better than others) that I am always happy to share so send me an email at and let me know how I may be able to help.
