June President’s Letter: Resolve to Be Present

June President’s Letter: Resolve to Be Present

By: Leigh Tidwell

Happy Memorial Day!  It’s hard to believe that June 1st  is this week and we’re halfway through 2016.  This year has taken off full force for our chapter and many of our members.  Event season is drawing to close and we have a brief lull to recap where we’ve been and where we’re headed.  I’ve been reflective this year on the success of our monthly chapter meetings, growth and change in our community service work, and the sheer diversity of the culture of our chapter.  It’s simply amazing and for that, I’m extremely grateful.  As we head into June, I’m looking back on my resolutions to see how I’m doing on being prepared, patient, and present thus far and what I need to do to “auto-correct” for the rest of the year!

Being prepared – this has been more of a challenge than I anticipated.  I was not prepared for each of monthly meetings to be sold out!  This is an incredible problem to have in today’s world.  The strain on everyone’s time, finances, and great choices for networking out there make this incredibly humbling.   I was not prepared to welcome new faces and talents in record numbers.  We’re so glad to have you all and hope you’ll stick around to join us as members!

Being patient – this has come a long way.  We are very fortunate as a chapter to have some many talented individuals who are willing to volunteer their time and gifts to the goals we set in January.  This has been a chaotic time in many people’s lives.  We’ve had a plethora of babies born, babies on the way, and babies growing up way too fast!  They’ve attended meetings, kept their parent’s awake all night, but not away from their commitment to DFW NACE.  I am grateful to each and every one of you as you have taught me that you follow the beat of your own drum (or little drummer) but you always get the job done!

Being present – this one has been easy.  It is a joy to be present with each and every one of you.  I learn so much about what makes this industry great, each and every day from all of you who show up month after month.  I am learning the hard way, as a mom of a little one who is soon to fly the nest, to cherish each and every day that I get to be involved.  Time flies!   So as I look forward to NACE Experience and the rest of the year, I like what I see!  I can’t wait to see what we’re going to do next  –
