Winning Customers for Life

Winning Customers for Life

0b7b858This year’s NACE Experience Conference had so many takeaways I don’t even know where to begin. Starting on Sunday we began classes and continued until mid-afternoon on Wednesday. Being in the catering/venue field I chose classes that were most pertinent to my day to day job. When I think of the one class that stands out for me for the week I go back to a class taught by a man known as “Mr. Nice Guy” or formally known as Doug Sandler. This class does not necessarily stand out in my mind as a class that I learned a lot of new material but it was more about a mindset and a way of living your life. The class was called “Winning customers for life that are winning relationships that last”.

The class began by Doug asking us to take out our cell phones. He then asked us to think about someone who we have not talked to in the last 30 days. Once we thought of that person we were to text them. “Hey! I was just thinking about you and wanted to say hello and I hope you are having a great day!” After that you could hear the room filled with vibrating cell phones and smiles on everyone’s faces. The responses everyone was getting were heartwarming, made you feel good and most importantly your text made someone’s day because you just checked in. You can relate this to how you interact with your customers. If you have not worked with somebody in a while send them a hand written note, email, phone call etc. Just simple say “hi and hope you are doing well.” Relationship building will take you a long way both personally and professionally. I challenge all of you! Think about a client you have not spoken to in the last 30 days and send a note. Very simple, just say hi and I hope you are well. I promise you will brighten someone’s day and may even book another event for staying top of mind with that customer!
